Walk two blocks in either direction and you'll find a different story. Getting a table at Rocco's Old School Italian & Wine Bar on a Friday night still means planning ahead. Lib's Grill, which opened across from the courthouse on West Pennsylvania Avenue in early June, as WMAR 2 News reported, is the fourth location for a family restaurant group that's simultaneously expanding into Reisterstown and Sykesville. Meanwhile, over at Towson Town Center, the gaps left by Wockenfuss, Madewell, Tommy Bahama, and the Apple Store are still gaps. Nothing has moved in to replace them.

Where the New Restaurants Opened
Nick Liberatore, whose family has run Lib's Grill locations in Perry Hall, Bel Air, and Maple Lawn for four decades, told WMAR 2 News that Towson was always on his list, but the timing and the location took years to line up. He eventually opened on West Pennsylvania Avenue, across from the courthouse.
"We love the Towson students, the Towson community, the college itself, but there are other pockets and communities around us."
Lib's Grill is on West Pennsylvania Avenue, rather than York Road, and its menu includes steaks, raw bar, and craft cocktails. The Towson Chamber of Commerce's executive director welcomed the addition, noting it joins existing fine-dining names like Towson Tavern and Bread and Circus on the courthouse block.
Rocco's opened a few months earlier in the former Glory Days space at 1220 E. Joppa Road, another location off York Road. The menu leans into old-school Italian-American red-sauce cooking: meatballs, Sunday gravy, chicken piccata.
Neither restaurant is hiding. Both are full most weekends.
The One Thing That Didn't Move: Wednesday Mornings on Allegheny Avenue
Alongside the new restaurants, the Towson Farmers Market is proof that some things just keep running regardless. It's been going on Allegheny Avenue every Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. since early June, and it doesn't wrap until November 19. No seasonal handoff, no fall pause. If you've been meaning to make it down there before the market closes for the year, you've still got about thirteen weeks left, which is longer than most people assume once Feet on the Street ends and the summer feels psychologically over.
Fall's Real Opening Weekend Isn't a Restaurant, It's a Stadium
The other piece of the calendar that resets in late August has nothing to do with retail. Towson University's football team opens its home season at Johnny Unitas Stadium on August 27 against Maine, the first of five home dates that will bring a few thousand extra cars into downtown Towson on game days through the fall: September 19 against Morgan State, October 10 against Stony Brook, October 31 against Hampton, and November 21 against Elon. The stadium seats just over 11,000, which is enough to notice in the parking lots and restaurant waitlists around campus on game days but not so large that it swallows the neighborhood the way a Big Ten campus would. Towson University's Center for the Arts also starts its fall programming back up in October, so campus life downtown isn't just a football story. It's the whole rhythm of the university waking back up after summer session.
